Last week’s major disruption to world wide Internet services was reported to be the result of cuts / breaks in underwater cables. With two cables damaged last week, Egypt, India and parts of the Middle East were affected, this reminds us of the dependence we have built up in business and community on the Internet. Particularly affected were several outsourcing companies.
Now several sources are reporting a third undersea break — this time affecting Iran. These outages remind us of out dependencies. With three incidents, the conspiracy theorists are out in full force.
Lest we doubt it, be reminded – the Internet forms a major backbone for both commerce and everyday life.
[Postscript | 2008.02.18] – turns out that there may not have been a third break. Conspiracy theorists will continue to find pictures in the shadows..
